Google Apps and Active Directory Single Sign-On

Securly allows GAfE and AD based SSO and per-OrgUnit policies.

Securly was the first internet filter to provide Single Sign On using both Google Apps for Education and Active Directory accounts. Schools using Active Directory or LDAP based directories can use the free Google Apps Directory Sync (GADS) tool to get onto GAfE. Students, teachers and admins are administered policies customized for their Organizational Units and the login is based on their GAfE accounts.

Schools wanting a more seamless experience for Windows and Mac users joined to the AD domain can deploy a simple (Securly provided) script to their local IIS server.

Case Study:

Tim White of Webb City R-VII in Missouri manages a network of over 4000 students and faculty. As a district that had fully migrated to Google Apps for Education and launched a 1:1 Chromebook initiative, it was important for Tim to find a web filtering solution that was GAfE- and Chrome-friendly. While his existing appliance offered some features he liked, he generally felt a “negative tone from support when it came to Google Apps and Chrome”. When he learned about a new web filtering solution, the first to offer Google Apps integration and Single Sign-on for Chromebooks, it was an easy decision for Tim to make the switch.

  • Securly made it easy to create differentiated in-school and take-home policies for all devices through its unified admin dashboard.
